NEW JOINT PROJECT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF DORTMUND: ESTABLISHMENT OF THE “AUDI LOGISTICS LABORATORY”

Audi is setting up its own Audi Logistics Laboratory at the University of Dortmund’s Graduate School of Production Engineering and Logistics. AUDI AG signed a cooperation agreement with the Graduate School today. Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, the Graduate School has been enabling a new generation of scientists to conduct international research on the highest level for some six years now. The Audi Logistics Laboratory will create an exclusive class for sponsored postgraduates, which will receive half a million euros in funding over three years.

The Audi Logistics Laboratory offers outstanding young scientists research-based training in production and logistics. “This academic research in cooperation with industry offers major opportunities for Audi: both new concepts for increasing efficiency and innovations as an essential pillar of effective logistics,” said Dr. Ernst-Hermann Krog, Head of Brand Logistics at Audi.

The pioneering thesis topics will be chosen directly from areas of application at Audi and will fit seamlessly into the company’s logistics strategy. Each PhD student will have the assistance of a mentor from within the company. On-site attendance phases at the Audi factories will offer the postgraduates an additional foundation in industrial practice for their doctoral theses.

Six talented young scientists will be sponsored over a period of three years. The programme starts on 1 April and 1 October of each year. The Audi Logistics Laboratory represents an addition to the many joint projects the Ingolstadt carmaker already has with academic institutions.
