Britain’s Lewis Hamilton overcame wet conditions to win the Japanese leg of the Formula One world championship today.

Starting from pole position, McLaren-Mercedes driver, Hamilton dropped to fourth after his first pit stop, but regained the lead after 41 laps to finish ahead of Finland’s Heikki Kovalainen in a Renault and Kimi Raikkonen in a Ferrari. It was Hamilton’s fourth win of the season, following his victories in Canada, the United States and Hungary.
Todays victory takes his points tally to 107 points, 12 points ahead of his McLaren-Mercedes team-mate, Fernando Alonso, who crashed at a hair-pin corner shortly after the Briton regained the lead.

Volkswagen of America, Inc. has announced two contingency programs to celebrate the efforts of top Volkswagen racers in SCORE International Off-Road Racing.

The funds will be available to all Volkswagen-powered racing vehicles that register with Volkswagen and carry the factory-supplied logo decals. Volkswagen-powered vehicles have hundreds of class wins in SCORE racing over the past 40 years, including numerous overall wins. The announced programs will both honor the tradition and celebrate the future of Volkswagen in off-road racing.

Mercedes-Benz now offers a newly developed Blind Spot Assist system as an option for its S and CL-Class models, which is designed to help drivers when changing lanes.

Mercedes-Benz employs six short-range radar sensors for the new assistance system, which can be found in the front and rear bumpers. The sensors monitor the zone to the side and rear of the car on both the left and the right. In so doing, they cover the area known as the “blind spot” which drivers are unable to see in the exterior mirrors.

According to Autobild, Volkswagen could be building this cool-looking minivan. The new model would be based on the same platform as the company’s Up!.

The winning streak of AUDI AG in the 1000 mile race at Road Atlanta - better known as “Petit Le Mans†- could not be more impressive: Audi has contested the American long-distance classic seven times to date and has taken the checkered flag on each occasion as winner.

The Audi R8 was triumphant six times, the powerful 650 hp Audi R10 TDI won for the first time last year. As a result, the diesel engined sportscar took overall victory in its debut season at the three most important long-distance races of the year: Sebring, Le Mans and Petit Le Mans.

On Wednesday evening, AUDI AG was awarded the gold “EACA Euro Effie†at the award ceremony in Brussels.
Awarded by the European Advertising Association (EACA), this is one of the most prestigious advertising awards in Europe. The company with the four ring logo was awarded the Golden Effie for its overall campaign for the launch of its high-performance SUV, the Audi Q7, entitled “from the creator of the quattroâ€.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. announced that it will lower prices in Canada by more than 10 percent on its 2008 models compared to prices and standard equipment on its 2007 lineup.

“We cannot ignore our customers and dealers in Canada who can look to the U.S. and recognize a substantial price difference,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Inc. “We listened to the market and did what is best for our customers in Canada.”

Even before its market introduction on 9th November of this year, the European consumer protection organisation Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) tested the safety of the Tiguan and the results are first class. With this result, the Tiguan continues the good tradition established by the Golf, Touran, Passat and Touareg in the past.

When judging a vehicle, the Euro NCAP evaluates three areas of safety: passenger protection, child safety and pedestrian safety. The Tiguan earned five stars for passenger protection, four stars for child safety and two stars for pedestrian protection to lead the overall evaluation in its class.

Audi is setting up its own Audi Logistics Laboratory at the University of Dortmund’s Graduate School of Production Engineering and Logistics. AUDI AG signed a cooperation agreement with the Graduate School today. Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, the Graduate School has been enabling a new generation of scientists to conduct international research on the highest level for some six years now. The Audi Logistics Laboratory will create an exclusive class for sponsored postgraduates, which will receive half a million euros in funding over three years.
