The guys at Autocar have achieved where Clarkson failed on Top Gear; they’ve managed to get an insurance quote for the insane Bugatti Veyron.

How does £23,000 pa with a £25,000 excess sound?. The quote is for a 44-year-old driver.
Pretty reasonable, given the value of a Veyron.

In the seventh round at Mid-Ohio, Team Audi Sport North America achieved a commanding 1-2 victory in the LM P1 class. Emanuele Pirro (Italy) and Marco Werner (Germany) finished third overall missing the outright victory by just 15.073 seconds. Their teammates Dindo Capello (Italy) and Allan McNish (Scotland) came home in fifth position and second in the LM P1 class.

The Audi R10 TDI made life difficult for the 330 lb. lighter LM P2 sports cars at Mid-Ohio. On the opening lap, Emanuele Pirro cannoned himself from eighth on the grid to third position. It took the Audi driver just seven laps to also pass the two “factory†Porsches with great maneuvers thus taking the overall lead. During the first hour, Pirro was able to open a lead of more than 10 seconds.

Here’s Lewis Hamilton taking a high impact smash at the Nurburgring today. Apparently, the incident was caused by a wheel-gun fault. The same gun was also used on Alonso’s car, but fortunately the Spaniard wasn’t affected.
Besides a few bruises, Hamilton will be fit to drive in the race tomorrow.

The next FIA World Touring Car Championship meeting will be a milestone for both SEAT and the FIA World Series – for the first time, a manufacturer team will enter a diesel car at a FIA-organised official World Championship race.

At the event in Sweden on the 28th to 29th July, both Jordi Gené and Yvan Muller will drive a Leon WTCC car equipped with a 280 PS diesel engine, which is derived from the 170 PS 2.0-litre TDI featured in the top-selling Leon FR. Press release (including full specification) below.

Well, the ultimate side-car - if you’re a VW fan. This split-screen creation was spotted at a recent car meeting in the UK. There’s almost room for a full size surfboard on the roof!

Many thanks to Morrissey for sending us the photos.

With its best qualifying performance since April, Audi Sport North America has secured a promising starting position for the seventh round of the American Le Mans Series. On Friday, Dindo Capello (Italy) broke the track record for LM P1 sports cars at Mid-Ohio by almost two seconds. The Italian captured fourth position on the starting grid behind three LM P2 cars. The other Audi R10 TDI will start Saturday’s race from row four.

Running the revolutionary diesel-powered sports car for the first time at Mid-Ohio, Team Audi Sport North America improved from session to session during the two days of practice. In qualifying, Dindo Capello recorded the fastest ever lap of a LM P1 sports car on the 2.258 mile-long race track in the middle of Ohio (1m 09.435s). The Italian thus not only left all competitors in the LM P1 category behind but also six of the much lighter LM P2 cars.

We’ve brought you around a zillion (is that a word?) spy-shots of Porsche’s mighty Panamera, but these are the most telling yet. Even though the rear quarter-panels are camouflaged, this angle lets you see the car’s actual c-pillar. Looks pretty sleek to us.

Autobild has created our favourite rendering of the forthcoming Audi Q3, so far.

The Q3 will borrow many Golf V, or possibly Golf VI, components, such as a twin-clutch (DSG) transmission and the GTI’s TFSI unit. The car should also be available with a 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 and the company’s 3.6L FSI V6 powerplant for the flagship model, possibly dubbed the Q3S.
Looks pretty cool to us.

Well, who’d have thunk it? An eagle-eyed forum user spotted rust on this Bugatti Veyron at the recent Goodwood Festival. You’d expect a little more for your $1,700,000, wouldn’t you?

There are less rusty Mk5 Golfs on the roads…
