WOLFSBURG, Germany - The Volkswagen Touareg Stanley has been on exhibit since the start of this month in the “i-Space†of the Science Centre in the island state of Singapore.

This area is dedicated to current technological developments. Stanley immediately became a magnet for visitors. Inside Line has been grilling BMW M Vice President Gerhard Richter. They threw in a couple of questions regarding a CSL version of the forthcoming E90 M3 model. Here’s his response.

When quizzed about a possible CSL version, he replied: “We built the last M3 CSL to test how many euros customers are willing to pay for less weight. For 20 years, they’ve learnt to pay for more power, not less weight. The reaction to the CSL was very positive and you will already see in the new M3 that we’ve spent a lot of money bringing down the weight.”
When asked directly, whether there would always be a CSL model in the M3 range, he said:Yes, yes, yes. We are thinking about such a special version. Yes, of course. Because the last M3 CSL version was so successful and it’s fun to drive. Maybe.

Left Lane News has published the clearest photos yet of Porsche’s forthcoming CLS-fighter; the Panamera. Even though the previous prototypes have shown an enormous fixed rear wing, most of us had presumed that the finished vehicle would have a retractable item. We weren’t wrong.

Audi believe that if it wasn’t for the smaller fuel tanks they were running, they would have beaten the LMP2 Porsches at the Mid-Ohio race last weekend.

The cars with bigger tanks were able to take on less fuel later in the race, however, due to the smaller fuel tanks that diesel cars have to run, the Audis had to put more fuel in each time,
Emanuele Pirro and Marco Werner led 67 of the 134 laps, after the race Werner said: “We lost the race in the pits. At the second stop we simply lost too much time during refuelling. That’s how the regulations are.”
Audi Sport North American team boss Dave Maraj commented: “This was quite an exciting race, but I’m a little bit disappointed that we weren’t able to get the overall victory. It’s quite obvious that the smaller fuel capacity is hurting us. Porsche were able to short fill and beat us twice out of the pits.”

The MTM TT Bimoto has hit a new top speed of 393km/h (243.66 mph) setting a new official record for the top speed on the test track in Papenburg. The twin-engined vehicle was driven by the current champion of the SEAT Supercopa 2006 Florian Gruber who is also currently driving in the Porsche Carrera Cup.

The Bimoto record ride was achieved in the second run of two trails, under windy conditions, partial rain and temperatures of around 20 degree Centigrade. MTM will go to Nardo to aim for for 400 km/h (248 mph) in the next few months. Crazy.

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, is holding another open house at its apprenticeship workshop this coming Friday afternoon. Young people are invited to the training center in Stammheimer Straße in Zuffenhausen to get an idea of the 14 technical and commercial careers for which they can currently train at Porsche.

There are a total of 100 positions up for grabs; the apprenticeships start in September 2008. In the words of Dieter Esser, head of vocational training, “Solid technical training remains vital to Porsche. It is only with the most highly trained new recruits that we can safeguard our excellent quality standards in the long term.” Those in highest demand are therefore industrial mechanics that can be turned into top-notch automobile manufacturers. During their training, the young apprentices develop in-depth knowledge of automotive engineering and are taught about the manufacturing methods used to construct Porsche vehicles.

Clarkson’s (kind of) given his verdict on the Mercedes C 280 Sport. In all honesty he only talks about the car for around 10 percent of the article. Quite amusing though…

“I liked it more than the dreary BMW 3-series, but is it, I wondered, significantly better than the much cheaper Ford Mondeo?”

McLaren’s Fernando Alonso has won an incident-packed European Grand Prix to cut championship-leading team mate Lewis Hamilton’s lead to just two points. “I like the rain, there’s no doubt. Always when it rains I’m quite happy and have some fun,” said Alonso after the Nurburgring race.

While Spain’s double world champion celebrated his third victory of the season, Lewis Hamilton’s run of nine podiums in a row came to an abrupt end. Hamilton, started 10th and made a blistering start to fourth place before skidding off at the first corner on the third lap. Fortunately, he kept his engine running and was lifted back onto the track by crane in time for the re-start a lap down on the leaders.
“It’s a new experience for me, not having to find my way to the podium. I came here completely sick, had one of the biggest crashes I ever had, then got a puncture, went into the gravel, it started to rain - it was really a great weekend in terms of learning,” said the philosophical Briton.
Hamilton currently leads with 70 points, with Alonso closing the gap with 68.
