Auto Express has released more details of the forthcoming oil-burning Audi R8.

Apparently, the diesel version will be made available towards the end of next year, following the arrival of a mighty V10 powered model. The 4.2L TDI will be lifted from the company’s Q7 SUV, but we can expect it to be tweaked a little, taking power from 322bhp up to around 350bhp. The sprint to 60mph should be in the region of 5 seconds, while a 160mph top speed seems very realistic.
The 5.0L V10 model should be with us by early 2008, priced around £85,000. The diesel version should cost about £70,000.

BRABUS presents its B63 S engine tuning, which boosts power output of the high-revving 6.2L V8 to 550 hp / 404 kW and peak torque to 650 Nm. With a sprint time from rest to 100 km/h of just 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h a CLS 63 AMG with B63 S tuning turns in performance worthy of a true super sports car.

The BRABUS power kit comprises newly programmed engine electronics with special mapping for injection and ignition. But that’s not all: The intake side features a sport air filter for improved supply of combustion air. The exhaust side features high-performance metal catalysts with low back pressure that also ensure that the tuned V8 engine meets stringent EURO IV emission limits.

As you’ll know, we attended GTI International at the weekend, and witnessed the awesome looking W12-engined Golf. We heard it run, but missed out on seeing it actually moving.
According to one or two magazines, the car was just a showpiece that couldn’t be driven. Just to prove them wrong, here it is.
OK, so it’s not doing 200mph, but it’s moving!

Lewis Hamilton took victory in the U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday, forging a 10 point lead over his double world champion team mate, Fernando Alonso

Hamilton crossed the line 1.518 seconds ahead of his McLaren team mate to secure his seventh podium finish in seven starts. Felipe Massa grabbed third for Ferrari. McLaren now lead Ferrari in the constructors’ standings by 35 points.
“What a dream,” an emotional Hamilton told reporters. “I never thought in a million years I would be here today with these drivers and win two races in North America.
“To come to Canada for the first time and now Indianapolis for the first time and have the best two races of my life, it’s an amazing feeling.
“Coming into the season you have to be realistic, I never expected anything but hoped to do well,” he added. “I hoped maybe I could get a podium at some point but I have been on the podium the last seven races. It’s insane.”

Mercedes-Benz is laying the groundwork for a new, forward-looking safety concept. Following its impressive success in the area of occupant protection, the Stuttgart-based brand will focus more strongly in the future on anticipatory recognition and the prevention of accidents.

To this end, Mercedes-Benz is developing intelligent driver assistance systems that utilize stereo cameras and radar sensors to monitor the area surrounding the vehicle. These systems also have the ability to make predictive interpretations of critical driving situations and then issue timely warnings to drivers - or even intervene autonomously if there is imminent danger.

Ingolstadt company Audi, has built its last RS4 Saloon. The V8 monster debuted at the Geneva motor show in 2005, going on sale in the October of that year.

It was joined by an Avant and Cabriolet version last summer. Those two models will remain in production for the time being. It’s believed that the RS4 will make way for its chunkier brother, the 5.0L V10-powered RS6.
