There’s no doubt that oil burners are being taken seriously these days, as these two cars testify. Autobild has compared Tec-Power’s Golf TDI GT with the JE Design Leon TDI FR.

The Golf has slightly more power, with 204bhp (compared to the SEAT’s 194bhp.) This equates to a small advantage on the road with the Golf hitting 100km/h (62mph) in just 7.4 seconds, and it’s Spanish cousin making the same trip in 7.7 seconds.

Although not officially confirmed, we’re 99 percent certain that this is the forthcoming super-hot version of Audi’s A5, the RS5.

The high-revving 4.2L V8 that powers the RS4 gets plumbed into the RS5’s nose, complete with two turbochargers that will take peak power to around 450bhp. Expect it to come equipped with all the goodies, including magnetic ride, and even the R8’s ceramic brake package.
The beauty of the A5 platform, is that it moves the front axle 120mm forward, effectively improving the cars weight distribution. The A5’s engineering boss, Stefan Härdl, explains ‘It really helps the steering - it’s more precise and direct than even the RS4, we’ve removed all the elasticity.

Volkswagen has made a few commercials along these lines. You know how it is when you’ve got a shiny new VW, the last thing you want to do, is get it dirty!

More details are emerging, regarding the next generation Golf from Volkswagen.

The Wolfsburg company’s flagship model will appear in showrooms by summer 2008. It’ll be based around the current MkV shell, but wear a heavily revised face. New Volkswagen Design boss Walter Maria de’Silva , has stated that the company’s indiscreet chrome grille will be dropped in favour of a more ‘classic’ look.
A hybrid model will join the new Golf range, before its technology is passed on to Audi’s A3, then SEAT and Skoda models.

If you own a Mercedes SL, and have been looking for a way to strip its value down to zero, this is the package for you.
The car below, is the creation of FAB Design, and goes by the original name of “Mega Wing Widebody.” We don’t mind the 640bhp supercharged V8 powerplant, but the tacky add-ons are just
appalling.

For ‘just’ €30,000, FAB Design will add the wide arch kit (2 metres wide at the rear) Lambo-style doors (tragic) and those discreet 20 inch wheels.
FAB Design ‘brag’ that the King of Morocco owns a black example, with red leather interior. Classy…

This commercial is a bit disturbing. We love the Lupo, but the baby this ad is almost as weird as the baby in ‘Train Spotting.’

Mercedes are making full use of their new driver, Fernando Alonso, by showing his face (for two seconds,) during this C-Class commercial.
He’s only been with the McLaren Mercedes F1 team for a few months, but he really seems to have picked up an English accent. It almost doesn’t sound like him…

Not exactly a fair comparison, but it gives a good comparison of a fast car, and a VERY fast car.
Clarkson has a little drag race with between his Murcielago LP640 and a Mk5 GTI.
Here’s a step back in time. Clarkson gets taken for a scary drive in the Lamborghini Diablo. Cool.

Here’s a blast from the past. Before the Bugatti Veyron even existed, Tiff Needell chose to go for the high speed record in a BMW-engined McLaren F1.
Produced from 1994-1998, the V12-powered F1 hit a record top speed of 386.5 km/h (240.14 mph) until it was surpassed in 2005 by the Koenigsegg CCR, and then the Bugatti Veyron.
