The manufacturer plans to achieve both the Euro 5 and Euro 6 standards by next year. Porsche also stated that it is developing flexible-fuel vehicles that can run on a gasoline mixture that includes as much as 85 percent ethanol.

Euro 5 standards, aimed at reducing cars’ and vans’ nitrogen-oxide and particle emissions, take effect in September 2009 and the Euro 6 rules, which further tighten diesel models’ nitrogen-oxide emissions, will come into effect in January 2014.

Porsche has previously said that it would be working with Volkswagen to develop a hybrid gasoline-electric powered version of the Cayenne SUV.

The hybrid Cayenne should be production-ready this decade.
