The guys at Hamann have come up with this bodykit, for those people wanting to devalue their brand new MINI.

We like the colour-coded arches, suspension drop and 18 inch rims, but the new ’stick-on’ bits look a little cheap to us, especially those sill extensions.

The highlight of Christie’s International Motor Cars next sale on 17 February 2007, will be an extremely rare 1939 Auto Union D-Type.
Thought to be one of only two in existence, the car will lead the sale at Rétromobile 2007, one of Europe’s most prestigious exhibitions for automotive collectors.

One of the most important cars in motor-racing history, it won the 1939 Belgrade grand prix at the hands of Nuvolari, and today enjoys a near-mythical status due to its rarity. It is expected to break current records and become the most expensive car ever to be sold at auction.

This is the Gumpert Apollo. The company’s name is taken from its owner, ex-Audi Sport boss Roland Gumpert
The Apollo is a street-legal race car with 650bhp and weighs less than 1100kg. It can manage 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and hit a 220+ mph top speed. Power comes in the form of a twin-turbo Audi 4.2L V8 unit.

The car is manufactured at a small plant based in Altenburg, Germany, employing just 39 workers. Expect to pay around €200,000 to drive one away from there.

The 2007 Volkswagen GTI has scooped yet another accolade. This time it’s the impressive ‘Car Of The Year’ title from Automobile Magazine.

Automobile Magazine’s editor-in-chief Gavin Conway, said the latest sporty Golf, was a clear winner because of the way it provides affordable performance. “It’s a great car to drive as well as being an easy car to live with,” he said.
Some readers have questioned why the magazine has chosen a relatively low-cost car as the winner. Conway replied that they wanted to highlight “a more responsible approach to performance driving, taking into account factors such as fuel economy.”

We’ve brought you many spy pictures of the forthcoming Convertible from Rolls Royce, but here are some leaked official pictures of the beauty.
The uber-rag-top will make its debut at next months Detroit Motor Show, and is expected to get the ‘Corniche’ label. Many styling cues have been carried over from the concept model (100EX), including the LED lights, brushed aluminium bonnet and the unusual teak roof cover.

We’re glad the suicide doors have made it onto the production model.

A.W.E. Tuning’s 2001 Audi 2.7T S4 has come out on top in the 2006 Eurotuner Magazine Tuner Grand Prix. The event was held in Southern California, with the cars being put through dyno tests, mile runs, and fastest lap competitions.

The S4 is equipped with a custom A.W.E. Tuning RSK04 turbo kit and a host of other A.W.E. Tuning performance goodies. This package has proved equally effective in the past, with the last three Eurotuner Grand Prix champion cars also using a similar set-up.
The A.W.E car didn’t win a first place spot in any single catergory, but was a consistent performer throughout them all, grabbing second place on the dyno run, and a third place in both the mile run and lap sections.
Well done guys.

The guys at Autobild have gathered 16 AMG cars, totalling a massive 8,000 bhp and €1.8 million. They’ve come to the conclusion that the 360 bhp SLK 55 AMG is the best buy.

Personally we’d take the 525 bhp CL 63 AMG (if we win the lottery.)
You can check out the review and pictures, over at Autobild.

Here’s a cool video showing a couple of heavyweight hitters. The RUF Rt12 (650 bhp) against a RUF R-Turbo (550 bhp). It’s pretty short, but still worth a view. Enjoy!

The guys at LLTek have created this bodykit for the new generation Audi TT. We normally prefer the ‘less is more’ look of a car, but this kit isn’t too bad.

We’re not too sure if we’d buy their forthcoming upswing Lambo-style (gullwing) door kit though. They’ll never be cool - on anything other than a Lambo.

BusinessWeek are reviewing the year, and mention discontinued cars, including the VW Phaeton. While there’ll be a facelifted model out soon, and an all-new version in Europe by 2009, America has just not bought into the car.

Volkswagen’s thinking behind the Phaeton, was that perhaps the baby boomers that had grown up surrounded by VW’s, now had plenty of spare money to throw at a luxury model.
The car is great, but the Americans weren’t prepared to buy a VW with a price tag of almost $70,000. Just 820 models passed through the dealers doors in 2005, so it was dropped in the States this year.
RIP Phaeton.

You’ve probably gathered that we’re big fans of old German Classics, especially the one’s packing big powerplants. We received these pictures of this ‘work of art’ from a reader.

From what we can gather, it’s an American example, wearing Euro bumpers on a perfect looking body. Under the bonnet there’s a modified 2.5L E30 M3 unit churning out an impressive 267 bhp through a close-ratio 5-speed from a Euro BMW 323i.
Thanks to Pooks for the pictures.

DaimlerChrysler and Volkswagen have announced that their Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, VW and Audi brands are developing almost half a dozen vehicles powered by the cleaner-running BLUETEC diesel engines.

Oil burners currently make up 50 percent of all car sales in Europe, where as in the States, just 2 percent of new cars sold, are diesel powered.
California’s strict emission laws currently forbid the sale of diesel vehicles, however, the BLUETEC unit’s would be clean enough to pass the test, and with California being responsible for 10 percent of all American car sales, it makes sense to create a cleaner diesel for that market.

Volkswagen intend to use a four-cylinder diesel in its Jetta saloon aswell as the forthcoming Tiguan SUV in 2008. America can also expect diesel versions of its Touareg SUV and Passat by 2009. Audi plan to release a diesel vehicle by 2008.
