Smart Roadster Reborn

A British consortium, is set to invest £65 million, in an attempt to breathe new life into the defunct Smart Roadster, bringing it back as the AC Ace.

‘Project Kimber’ has negotiated a deal with DaimlerChrysler to own the rights to their Smart Roadster and Roadster Coupe models.

Kimber chairman Lord James of Blackheath admitted the plan was running behind schedule, saying ‘It is taking longer to achieve than we originally hoped.’ He added ‘We have a number of significant investors who are close to commitment and require at least one more to do so before we close the book. We expect to be able to announce that this has been completed in the near future.’

McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray, is on board as a technical adviser, so we can expect a capable product.

Production could begin as early as 2007.
